Smart Industry: Fieldlab Flexible Manufacturing

11:30 – 12:00

The coordinated Dutch approach towards Industry 4.0 developments is captured in the Smart Industry platform (www.smartindustry.nl). A roadmap and action agenda has been defined, where various Fieldlabs have been established in order to facilitate and accelerate Smart Industry developments in The Netherlands.

Meanwhile more than thirty Fieldlabs have been launched. One of these Fieldlabs is focused on flexible manufacturing and is located around the new Brainport Industries Campus where high-tech suppliers can innovate together and manufacture products in a high mix/low volume environment. Target of this Fieldlab is to develop (semi-)automated solutions for production of small batches with high flexibility.

In order to focus different use cases have been defined: flexible assembly, flexible handling and bin picking. These cases will be explained during the presentation. Furthermore, general themes to be considered for enabling (semi-)automatic flexible manufacturing are investigated as well, like safety, programming methods, traceability and education.

Some of the technologies will be explained, like automated programming methods and cobot technology.

Eddie Mennen has experience in industrial automation after working at Vanderlande, VDL Steelweld and is now responsible for Yaskawa activities in Benelux. Yaskawa is a global company active in robotics, drives, motion and controls.
